The Day She Left Him
The Day She Left Him
By Zim (Michael Zimmerman)
She turned around at the door the day she left him.
She wanted to hold him one more time.
He slipped into her arms, pulled her close
Two hearts beating in time.
But that was only in his mind.
It was the last time he’d dream of her.
Motionless he watched her turn.
He watched her yearn for a single word.
But that was only in his mind.
It was the last time he’d dream of her.
Motionless he watched her turn.
He watched her yearn for a single word.
There he stood alone in his hall.
Hoping that he wouldn’t fall to the floor.
He shook his head and stepped, stepped to the door.
And turned the lock for ever more.
Through the rain he watched her pray.
Watched her delay (in the) steaming Escalade.
Motionless, she pulled away.
The rain had sprayed every trace of her away.
Time like these can knock a man to his knees.
They’d appease, just to get on.
But this time ‘round, ya couldn’t knock this man down.
There wasn’t a single sound and he got on.
