Just Drive.

Well it's almost October and summertime's over.
In fact it's been over for years.
I drive round my hometown and I see this kind face frown,
So I roll my window down, he asks: "Why are you here?"
I try to remember that last year's September
I got off-centered from the way that they've paved.
So I ask for directions, he said: "Just go ahead son.
You're not an exception to the rules that we've made."

So I roll up my window and I step on the gas
To see destinations I'm not meant to go.
But I listen and follow, my passion I've passed.
Dead ends and stop signs don't want me to grow.

I end up at my old house and it feels safe but i feel doubt,
'cause it isn't what I vowed for I wanted to change.
Take a walk through the garden, see a castle of carton.
Kids playing feel foreign from when I was their age.
I never learned confidence and I never learned pride.
So when they said: "Just jump, man." I asked: "How high?"
But their height wasn't a leap and their depth wasn't that deep,
So the secrets that I keep are where I wanna go in life.

Keep taking the wrong route, to all my lost traces.
Keep going places I'm not meant to be.
I blend in a crowd, but then clash with their faces.
One of them faceless and that would be me.

I'm still waiting on that one day when the sun sets and its last rays turn the gray of the highway into orange and pink.
One last look in the rear view, then I'll drive til the day's new and the dark slowly turns blue. You'll get there, don't think.
