Lovers Leave

The Strypes

Quick drying promises could get anyone into trouble
After a handful of no's you're practically inconsolable
Waiting for you at home is a smile that says at least you tried
But it's falling on deaf eyes because you're dying inside

Green tea at high noon with his new venezuelan girlfriend
In a fancy paris loft with expansive art instalments
And that stupid dumb-walter that he never seems to use
It's there to raise eyebrows and possibly amuse

They're a past tense couple
Presently separated
A future meeting couldn't fix all this
So they swing in new circles
Some good and some bad

Lovers walk and lovers leave
Alone at the shopfront, table and coffee

Staring into space and the bed is breathing rhythmically
Along with the rest of the bed ridden infantry
The photos on the wall look on in disappoiment
So you turn your back like you've been doing for a while

While assessing his expansive business portfolio
His mind casts back to that girl from long ago
A smile plays on his lips as he remembers her barely
As the girl who was desperate to get hitched way too early.

They're a past tense couple
Presently separated
A future meeting couldn't fix all this
So they swing in new circles
Some good and some bad

Lovers walk and lovers leave
Alone at the shopfront, table and coffee

Lovers walk and lovers leave
And it's all so very acrimonious
