Well I Left Texarkana with nothing but dust in my veins Been a month of Sunday's since I last felt the rains I picked up my bags and hopped on a western bound dog By dawn OKC covered in a blanket of fog Pushed through Amarillo where the wild flowers grow Way past Tucumcari and lit out of New Mexico Well I don't have an answer but I'll ask anyhow Why she stayed behind and what is she doing right now And when that sun begins to shine That means we're near the California state line California State Line Rolling up Flagstaff the chariot shifts to low gears I look in the mirror and I'm going back 30 years Cross the Colorado you know that I soon will be there Now the sign say's Needles can't you feel that warm desert air And when that sun begins to shine That means we're on the California state line And when that sun begins to shine That means we're on the California state line I played my part way back in my prime And it's still on the California fault line And I'm feeling fine
