An Illusion Believed

Picture a cold and lonely bed / To one side a solitary form / Buried in blankets from feet to head / Heat turned high, but never quite able to feel warm
Imagine a field with green grass, tall and growing / The brilliant blades dance under the summer wind’s breath / And brush upon an old Buick, rusted and eroding / Such beautiful life, impervious to death / But here comes the winter
Remember the time we laughed ‘til our bellies
Were aching with a joyful pain / Since then it’s been cry, cry, cry me a river / Since then it’s been woe, woe, woe is me / Since then it’s been rain, rain, rain
Yes, I am that shell / Hollowed and helpless in the field / Alive, but in hell, an illusion believed becomes real
