I’ve always seen schooldays
Through September eyes
Could never concentrate
Could never memorize
All the blackboard figures and facts
Oh how I fell behind
For dreams and schemes
And visions of summertime
It was what I had in mind

My Ma could find no A’s
In my report card news
Hoped it was just a phase
That I was going through
“Does not apply himself” I would hear
Could never fall in line
With the slave all day
For minimum pay design
It wasn’t what I had in mind

Nor could I address the elephant in the room
