My Own Best Friend

I remember when I used to hate myself
Validation was the only thing that helped
Always wanted to look like somebody else
But that wasn't enough

Tried so many diets
Wore many disguises
Make-up couldn't cover-up
True feelings I hided
Was too narrow-minded
Until life had bossed me up

Now that I finally love myself
My life started changing radically
Since I finally found myself
I only want what is best for me
And I admit sometimes I have my ups and downs
But those thoughts about my past I will just not allow
Since I learned to love myself
I became my own best friend

I was searching for love that I couldn't find
Need to be accepted, wanted to be liked
I painted a perfect picture so they'd swipe to right
And I still felt empty

Automatic pilot
Can't blame me for trying
But it never was enough
True feelings I hided
