River in the Desert
Jake Baker
I can see it
A river in the desert
A dry land sinking
Beneath its living water
A deaf and blind man
Receives his dormant senses
I can see it
The drought has come and gone
Do you perceive it
A whisper in the silence?
Or are you listening
To anything beside it?
A Word is brandished
To cut through bone and tendon
It is finished
And a life has just begun
Rainwater
Fall on us
Restore the land
Wild river
Course through us
Bring life from death
I can see it
A river in the desert
