Mississippi River
Of so many beauties in this vast and immense cosmos
I quote one that amazes me
There is a river full of life
So great and so deep
With an incomparable beauty
It is ever present throughout the nation
And tells so many sad and happy stories
Over the centuries
It inspires poets and composers
Sung in verse and short stories
In voluptuous songs
The ancient islanders and historians still remember
Of the many steamboat races
They also remember a dangerous killer
Slave trader
A horse thief named John Murrell
He had a headquarter on Island 37
He was even quoted by Mark Twain
And if you want to know more of these gorgeous stories
Just reach the river's edge and admire it with respect
Mississippi River
Father of Waters
I am in your presence again
Mississippi River
Body of a nation
I always miss seeing you
As ever, it is charming
Old River full of legends and tales
Brings full life and happiness
Hail! Great Old Man River, Hail!
