Day to Day
She hears the alarm, reaches to turn it off
She gets in the shower as I groan and I rub my eyes
She turns on the coffee just for me
So I can relax, sipping my brew as I come alive
I come down the stairs and she raises her head, smiling
The smell of the toast tells me this day has begun
The curtain is up and the light of the day fills the room
There's snow on the car and there's the television
That shows a dog that dances while the world goes on
Day to day we do it, day to day thin and thick
Day to day slow and quick, that's the way we do it
Day to day we wake up, day to day smooth and rough
That's the way we do love, we do love
We listen and hear it's cold again
We sigh and both wonder if the season will ever end
I pour some more coffee for both of us
I bring her a cup, steal a kiss as I sit back down
The news of the day keeps on filling the air endlessly
We talk about how the snow might turn into rain
She stands up and gathers her cup and her bowl and her spoon
I follow behind as I do just the same
As our dog barks in the back yard again
Day to day we do it, day to day thin and thick
Day to day slow and quick, that's the way we do it
Day to day we wake up, day to day smooth and rough
That's the way we do love, we do love
