Monaco
Welcome to Monaco. This is Monaco today, yesterday it extended up the cost into Italy and on the other side farther into France
But today it encompasses what can be seen from the palace. The palace was built originally as a fort in 1215, and has through the years been in a state of constant change. One of the reasons for the durability of the palace is that it stands high on a rock overlooking the sea. From the tenth century before Christ men have fought for the rock. Barbarian tribes in animal skins and marching Roman soldiers swarmed over its surface. Julius Caesar's fleet embarked from Monaco's quiet harbor on its campaign in Greece. Then as now the rock has always been a citadel, a haven of refuge. It represents today a beloved landmark, a very personal symbol of strength to the people of Monaco
