DJ Bring It Back

CARL DACARIOUS NELSON

Where did I go wrong,
I’ve been on this road for to long,
now hip hops gone,
I feel I’ve got to keep it moving,
I flip the hourglass as time passes by me,
Lord I’ve got to keep it moving.

Some people feel like hip hop died,
With it’s pride, skateboards, and skinny jeans,
When DJs stop spinning those turn tables,
Shot up and burned labels.
Because everyone has a gun right,
They stand with it tucked in their pants,
Under the streetlights.
I wish somebody would try me, get violent,
It’s not how street forefathers did it,
But hey I get it.
To me, it’s funny how having pride can change lives,
I’ve seen the hardest go to hell and come back,
And still died.
Some rap don’t ride the beat, when they flow,
In the streets, or the yo,
They won’t sit down and have the beef revoked.
And now our kids are dying,
Shooters shooting without a target,
Now dude just pulled a gun from his pants,
And crashed the party.

Where did I go wrong,
I’ve been on this road for to long,
Now hip hops gone,
I feel I’ve got to keep it moving,
I flip the hour glass as time passes by me,
Lord I’ve got to keep it moving.
Your head gonna hurt sometimes,
That little bit of light won’t always shine,
But don’t you worry, everything gets better,
Got to try to hold your head,
Until the skies get cleared up.

Could it be these lyrics we write,
Or just an attitude,
Creating a mass inflation of pride,
To shoot at other dudes.
How can an organ still in a body,
Be hard as plaster,
With the strength of a porcelain product,
But yet so fragile.
I’m beginning to think that the heart,
Is just a state of mind,
The greed and the pride,
Believe me, it forms a fatal line.
Behind it, is the grimmest of reapers,
With intentions of you dying,
A bird with a wound on its wing,
Will not succeed in flying.
I’m bumping K’naan,
And old school refugees.
Knowledge is power,
But power can come from other things,
Like, pointing a pistol,
Or forming a plan of mass destruction,
Then change the minds of the people,
Only survivors love you.
Paint perfect pictures,
Deceptive beauty always deceives us,
And true intentions are hidden,
Only creators sees it,
So who’s to save me this harsh torture,
While I lie bleeding,
Hip hop just burned in a fire,
I saw it all while sleeping.

Where did I go wrong,
I’ve been on this road for to long,
And now hip hops gone,
I feel I’ve got to keep it moving,
I flip the hour glass as time passes by me,
Lord I’ve got to keep it moving.
Your head gonna hurt sometimes,
That little bit of light won’t always shine,
But don’t you worry, everything gets better,
Got to try to hold your head,
Until the skies get cleared up.

Dumb, deaf, or blind,
Your body still feels the wind.
Your mind can adapt with time,
Some cats find freedom in the pin.
I bump my head against the bricks,
Reminisce for dead I miss,
Staring down an empty hall,
Thinking man this life’s a trip.
Got my hands on my face,
Vibing about the years,
Although my heart is very heavy,
I’m too tough to shed a tear.
Come see the world through my eyes,
It’s all desert we’re surviving,
And the food chain’s very vicious,
You might not live unless you ride.
But the strong continues trying,
Although the odds against them,
Success is all they see,
And defeat is rarely mentioned.
When this beat falls off,
The writers drop their pins,
DJ spin the turn table,
And bring it back again.

Where did I go wrong,
I’ve been on this road for to long,
And now hip hops gone,
I feel I’ve got to keep it moving,
I flip the hour glass as time passes by me,
Lord I’ve got to keep it moving.
Your head gonna hurt sometimes,
That little bit of light won’t always shine,
But don’t you worry, everything gets better,
Got to try to hold your head,
Until the skies get cleared up.

Where did I go wrong,
I’ve been on this road for to long,
And now hip hops gone,
I feel I’ve got to keep it moving,
I flip the hour glass as time passes by me,
Lord I’ve got to keep it moving.
Your head gonna hurt sometimes,
That little bit of light won’t always shine,
But don’t you worry, everything gets better,
Got to try to hold your head,
Until the skies get cleared up.
