Pray for rain

Hans Vreedenburgh

The clouds were ballerina white
When in my rear view mirror
It became apparent
The Maître de Ballet had closed the curtain
I was certain the blackened sky would rain and rain
My windshield wipers pushed to and fro
Scraping nothing but dust
My halogen headlights refused to shine
I was sure the Pas de Deux had come to an abrupt end
And in that moment I wondered
Had I finally left you behind
Then a burst of lightning
Eclipsing the length of the heavens
A blast of thunder
That could only be described as frightening
And still it didn't rain
Yet my Fouette never wavered
At least that's what I told myself
Somewhere north of nowhere
All I could think was
You and I had been there
That's when it occured to me
I was the one who needed saving
And the rain came like no other rain before
There are no winners, only losers
When danseur and danseuse both lose track of the score
And the rain came like no other rain before
