Toronto

Lil Yonny

I was born in the ghetto of Toronto
My mom was a crackhead and my dad was a dealer
I never had a chance, I was destined for failure
I was born into a world of violence and poverty
I never had a chance to escape

The ghetto was my home, the streets my playground
I grew up surrounded by drugs and gangs
I was always getting into fights and getting into trouble
I was never going to make it out alive

As a baby I was always hungry, cold and alone
My mom was too high to care for me and my dad was always gone
I was raised by the streets, they were my family
I learnеd to hustle and fight just to survive

I grew up too fast, thеre was no childhood for me
I was constantly surrounded by danger and death
I never had a chance to be a kid

I saw friends die, I saw people get shot
I saw mothers crying and fathers begging for mercy
I saw the darkness that consume the ghetto
And I knew that I was never going to make it out alive

At school the teachers were abusive
And the kids were all gangs and violence
I never learned anything, I was just trying to survive
I was always getting into fights and getting into trouble

The police were always hassling us
They were always looking for an excuse to arrest us
They would beat us and harass us
And I knew that I was never going to make it out alive

I was born into a world of violence and poverty
I never had a chance to escape
The ghetto was my home, the streets my playground
I grew up too fast, there was no childhood for me
I saw friends die, I saw people get shot
I saw the darkness that consume the ghetto
And I knew that I was never going to make it out alive
But I refused to be just another statistic
I refused to let the ghetto define me

I fought against the odds and I made it out
I escaped the cycle of violence and poverty
I may have been born in the ghetto of Toronto
But I am not defined by it, I am not a product of it

I am a survivor, I am a fighter
I am more than my circumstances
I am a living proof that anything is possible
No matter where you come from, you can make it out alive
It's just the Toronto streets are the ones that taught me how to survive
