Mallory’s Heights
Memories, I’ve been told, are born on mountaintops
Sounds of human voice buried under stones
Every deadly fall echoes in your pores
Dislocated buoys falling from above
A sudden cold wind blows, slips in through my gloves
It’s a warning call for lines we should not cross
Hung from jagged forms of unscalable rocks
The mountaineer got cold
He froze in the storm
[Spoken word: Dave Hahn]
His body appears to be mummified
There is rope around his waist
Still some socks
You can see a boot
Second boot appears to be on his foot
Enveloped in clouds, like Mallory you’re lost
But have you been above?
Did you reach the top?
