Just a Number
I don't pretend to be someone special
I know I’m just a number
I have no desire to be loved
By many or in loving memory
I don't need comfort in a higher being
For what I believe comes from within
I know my place and that i will fade
A forgotten moment in time and space
I could want to be more than I am
To dream a dream and reach the stars
But as an animal in the wild, a hunter or prey
I'm living life each day by day
Just a number and nothing more
Not searching for meaning in the universe
Not believing in an eternal life
Just a number here and now on earth
I don’t wish for my name to go on
I know I'm just a number
Among the many that come and go
There's no room for all to be known
I read history and see photos of old
People in pictures but nothing more
Stories changed and no longer true
Rose coloured glasses painting a view
I know that time waits for no one
That age is just a number not a state of mind
But I am not a philosophy
I am blood and bones and can be buried
Just a number and nothing more
Not searching for meaning in the universe
Not believing in an eternal life
Just a number here and now on earth
Just a Number
Just a Number
Just a Number
Just a Number
I am a grain of sand in a desert storm
A drop of rain in a typhoon
I have a part to play in this stage show
But am just a number on my own
I don't pretend to be someone special
I know I'm just a number
I have no desire to be loved
By many or in loving memory
I don't need comfort in a higher being
For what I believe comes from within
I know my place and that i will fade
A forgotten moment in time and space
I could want to be more than I am
To dream a dream and reach the stars
But as an animal in the wild, a hunter or prey
I'm living life each day by day
Just a number and nothing more
Not searching for meaning in the universe
Not believing in an eternal life
Just a number here and now on earth
Just a Number
Just a Number
Just a Number
Just a Number
Just a number and nothing more
