Ever since he was little, that kid was so studious
With his nose in a book like some child genius
At least that's what everybody had him labeled
Had him on a pedestal and he was favored
To potentially make a name for himself
So he kept putting in more effort than everyone else
That school came first and what he enjoyed suppressed
Beneath the learning till he couldn't express
Himself in a way that separated him and academics
That he slowly resented how his time was invested
Which had ultimately affected how he viewed the universe and how he worked
But he didn't want to disappoint his parents
So he busted his ass to achieve high merits
It was easy when he was young kuz he wasn't careless
It was like a switch flipped when he hit adolescence
Kuz when he went to middle school his mindset changed
He no longer wanted to think or act the same
So he began lashing out and cursed every other word
Kept up his grades but felt it was absurd
To maintain the persona that he never preferred
But he wasn't concerned when he started to roll
With a different crowd than the ones before
Who didn't care about trying for more
But to have the most fun in the moment
As he just wanted that as his main component
But he still kept pushing to make it to the top
And he didn't want to stop kuz he wanted to be noticed
For what he could achieve if he kept on working
To make everyone proud of what was occurring
In the back of his mind was something he was searching
To let it all go, he just wanted be
Free from their expectations
Free from it all, free from doubts
Free from responsibilities
Free to make every moment count
Free from the pressure
Free to unwind, free to decide
Free from trouble
Free to let it all out and have peace of mind
When high school came, he started to recluse
Had the same friends but he began to refuse
Offers to go hang out after school
Kuz he was stuck with homework that he had to do
Once in a blue moon he went out to events
But he was still hesitant on that time he spent
Wasting away trying so hard to be perfect
While he was still questioning if it was worth it
Sophomore year he began to break the shell
Spent a little more time with friends as well
Was late to every class, he didn't care about the bell
Kuz he was compelled to talk to his friends instead
He was finally in a groove when everyone was isolated
The world shut down and he thought he was ill-fated
Saying he was frustrated was an understatement
A slight taste of freedom that was suddenly taken
Then junior year took a turn for the better
His license in hand, he went wherever
His heart desired, when he wasn't required
To take anything on, he was finding true pleasure
Between classes, he had deep talks in the parking lot
Until what was eating at him became afterthoughts
After his practices he'd go over to his friend's place
Where they wrote music and laughed in life's face
Senior year he did everything he wanted to
Went to every school event with the friends that got him thru
Some rough times by going on long drives
That made him feel alive like he was brand new
He even went with a close friend to see a show
Of bands he now loves but at the time didn't know
It was hours out of town so he was surprised he could go
And that was when he realized he was finally
Free from their expectations
Free from it all, free from doubts
Free from responsibilities
Free to make every moment count
Free from the pressure
Free to unwind, free to decide
Free from trouble
Free to let it all out and have peace of mind
(Free from their expectations)
Life's too short to let it just go by
(Free from responsibilities)
Enjoy every little moment you get
(Free from the pressure)
They make everything worthwhile
(Free to decide
Free from trouble
Free to let it all out and have peace of mind
Free from their expectations)
It's perfectly fine to work towards big dreams
(Free from responsibilities
Free to make every moment count
Free from the pressure)
But don't let your endgoals prevent you from enjoying the small moments along the way
(Free to let it all out and have peace of mind)
