The Way It Ought to Be
Passing people on the street
Never knowing if we’ll meet
Wonder when the time will come
When I can call you mine
Every day just passes on
Another chance for us has flown
But of course I’ll soldier on
As mother says to me
To simply wait here patiently
And wonder how he’ll be
Will we talk all night till three
The way it ought to be
Maybe some day soon I’ll hear
Of course the course of life’s not clear
But perhaps he’ll just appear
Like a dream to me
Mother told me “take your time”
Time has taken most of mine
Can’t help but wonder what he’s like
And the differences we’ll see
So I just wait here patiently
And share my hearts beliefs
I’ll lay upon his chest to sleep
The way it ought to be
And from Time to time again
We’ll laugh and cry
Until the end
And you’ll say you love me
The way it should be
Treated fair that’s all I ask
Even after time has passed
Yet, still I wait so patiently
The way it ought to be
