Refuge

The script that’s been written was vague
Spent the early days of repentance reminiscing on how quickly this shit can change
Here in one minute, gone the next, let it all fall in then tripping over the gate
There’s no beginning, middle or end to the list of visions to chase
Hold these cards I’ve been gifted playing infinite roulette
With castles glimmering in the hills, the forest eclipsed in the shade
The wind whistles, lifts like a ghost limb picking up the ashes and sticks to descend the residual into decay
In the distance there’s whispers of hymnals attempting to separate the brick from the clay
Quiet village behind fence posts the skies drench in a never ending rain
Spring, summer, fall, winter sick with an ever persistent plague
The walls impenetrable, no promise of a difference would ever mark a shift in my faith
More than one path to perdition, sweat dripping down my face
Built every inch of this with fire and brimstone in a quiet den hidden behind the lake
At night I close the windows, let the paraffin glow in the lights vacancy
I hold the pen tight, close, inspired and write patiently
As I remember the times I had to let go of what’s sacred to me just to stave off the pain I received
Saying “one day you’ll make it away from this wait and see”
Saying “one day you’ll make it away from this wait and see”
Staying
So far away from the fake shit I can’t believe
No matter what the stakes, it ain’t no one who made it the same as
Me

At this point in my life my only concern is sound body and mind
The rest in the works but it should all fall in line
The days ain’t rehearsed I watch the sunrise from behind the pines
Lost traces entangled in every chamber of my heart, thoughts on what I left behind
In certain places and times I latched to every part as a purpose I could rely on
The mountains, rivers and tides redefined the worth of divine sparks
The estrangement I looked to find led to circling back in sight of the right cause
Led to many new types of discrepancies and of substance
The still air my only vice, any measured release couldn’t match the serenity of it
La terre was the prize impressive, replete, bountiful yet uninterrupted
In the end shrouded in deceit, she moonlit as a duchess
Cigarettes in the dark, glowing through the veil that I’m sunk in
We shared a glance from afar, the look was broken and lovesick
The only memory I recall being sober, wishing I wasn’t
Swear these lessons all go by misnomers, had to own up to holding nothin
Remember how freeing that road was standing toe to toe with it after sunset
In Ballard with the bridge open watching the boats, alone capturing unrest
That lonely séjour was broken going a thousand miles and only over one step
So many parts from my core I can only hope to suppress, so much I’ve seen with my eyes I want only to make known and confess
Wading through oceans of death
I’m bumping shoulders and necks
Everyone’s got their quotient tryna build precious stones from the stress
Spent too much time in the nosebleeds to view the podium with respect
Focused all 20s, Ginobili go head and fold up whatever’s left
Just tryna turn the pages, adjust the frames to new angles and make it from A to Z
Saying “one day you’ll make it away from this wait and see”
Saying “one day you’ll make it away from this wait and see”
Staying
So far away from the fake shit I can’t believe
No matter what the stakes, it ain’t no one who made it the same as
Me
