Nothing Remains
Nothing remains if it’s good
What would you change if you could?
Through evolution grows dissolution
A shadow lies where I once stood
The seconds tick by into hours
And days into months that drift into years
The confusion that comes with the passing of time
We go wherever we’re steered
(I keep my eye on your hand
Clean culpable contraband
Falling behind while we can)
Nothing golden can stay
That’s what Johnny would say
Running somewhere with our newly bleached hair
And we probably won’t live through today
Why are your hands feeling cold?
Is the pressure making you fold?
We trade away all our sunny days
And the parts our lives that we sold
I start to wither and rot away
Memory’s broken and starts to decay
I’m just a shell, a hollowed out man
Learning nothing to help understand
That as I watch the sun fall
Time’s coming after us all
I never again want to see the dark aging side of me
Nothing remains if it’s good
What would you change if you could?
We start to die in the blink of an eye
A shadow lies where I once stood
All of my timing is you
The white noise is now mute
